Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires...courage.

More Details...

Today I will be discharged from the hospital. I'm feeling well, maybe a bit tired. I got some good sleep last night, as the baby is now in the special care unit under bili lights, so the nurses were just bringing her to me for feedings. Plus, my night nurse was very courteous and only checked on me (vitals, etc.) when I was already awake! So sweet...

The bili lights are necessary because Emma has a higher bilirubin level than they would like. The lights will help break down those extra blood cells that are causing her to look 'yellow'. She is doing wonderfully in all other areas. She has been an old pro at nursing and she seems to be a happy baby. I guess we'll find out once we get her home! ;) We are expecting that Emma may have to stay an extra night in the hospital to be under the lights, but we won't find out until around 11 a.m. today. We're hoping her number will have come down enough that they will discharge her with me, but we just have to wait and see. Then, I'm sure we'll have to take her to the Dr.'s office for blood tests until the number is exactly where they want it. We've been through this with each of our children for different reasons, so it wasn't a big surprise that she followed suit...already following her siblings' example.

Logan and Hailey were preemies, and unable to break down the cells quick enough due to immature systems. Corbin just had a lot of extra blood cells to break down due to the extensive bruising he had from his delivery. Emma happens to have a type A - blood, which apparently conflicts a bit with my type which is o+. So, that is what is causing the issue with her...she can't break the cells down by herself either, hence the help from the lights.

We will be back on with other photos and more information once we know more. Hope you're all enjoying her with us. Can't wait until you all get to meet her!

I love it that you blogged right after birth ...what a trooper :)

She is so beautiful too and her big sister looks delighted. My twin girls were 11 when their twin brothers were born. They were very much "little mothers"

Have fun!
